Monday Morning Prayer

by | Feb 25, 2013 | Poetry | 12 comments

I was thinking, Father,
yesterday in worship,
with my hands upraised
in prayer and thanks,
how like a container
I’ve been this week.
Empty, needing to be filled,
a hollowed out space
hollering for help.
I’ve been stuck,
stagnant,
stewing by myself
drowning in unmoving water.

And you showed me, Lord,
how like a conductor
you want us to be….
passing on the power
as it goes through us,
sharing our portions
with others, a
channel for life
giving water away to the weary.

Keep me flowing, not pooling
or puddling,Lord,
from You the eternal
Source,
the Chief Water Engineer
whose everlasting fountain
never runs dry.

  1. AMAZING!!! So agree, so love to move in this very thing. Worshiping, flowing, RUSHING down the streams of our life. Thanks…

  2. Mary, thank you for your kind comments. That phrase seems to resonate with many, and Jesus just flat out gave it to me as I began to write.

    He is so good!

  3. Oh, this is beautiful! He's so good to continue to fill us with His life-giving self! Talk about something to 'live out' and share with others! I'm going to print this out and put it in my office as a reminder to 'flow, not pool or puddle'!
    Blessings to you ~ Mary

  4. What fun that we both wrote about water today! 'Love your imagery of allowing the water (of the Spirit) to flow through us to others, so we can be continually refilled with fresh water (His power for living).

That part about “flowing, not pooling or puddling” is also song-worthy!

  7. This is lovely, Jody. The idea of God bringing us the water of life is so refreshing…as I get older, I sometimes feel dried up, but He says He will make of us a well-watered garden. Be it so. Amen.

  8. Hi Jody; visiting from “Rich Faith Rising”…

Love this! We have a lot to shout about, and a joyful noise means singing, shouting, and clapping unto God. He is awesome, and we need to shout about and let Him know every day that we are thankful for everything He has done! 🙂

    Blessings and love,
    Denise

  9. Kel, you are such an encouragement! I didn't feel too joyful last week, but Jesus turned it around yesterday. Thanks for the song reminder–that one'll be in my head now 🙂

  10. Jody- Thanks for bubbling over with His joy and truths today! reminds me of that song…”I've got joy like a fountain, love like an ocean, peace like a river flowing out of me” Keep plugging into the Lord and transferring His light!
