Building Bridges

I’ve been thinking about bridges a lot lately

how they’re built
how they’re sustained
what they connect
what they cross
what they cover
and I am sure of only this:
building the bridge that connects a friendship
must be built one strong, sure bolt at a time……..
Romans 12
“14 Bless those who persecute you,
bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice;
 mourn with those who mourn.
16 Live in harmony with one another.
Do not be proud,
but be willing to associate with people of low position.
Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
1If it is possible, as far as it depends on you,
 live at peace with everyone.”

  1. Nancy, now that you pointed out the curves and straight lines…..I see it. I don't know why God led me to capture these photos, but I'm beginning to see more every time I look at them. There's more than meets the eye!

  2. I'm struck by the artistry of the bridges in your photos. Not only do they serve a purpose but there is lovely symmetry and great beauty in the combination of straight line and curve. There's an artistry to building a friendship, too. Sometimes the gentle curve of soft words and an arm around the shoulder are needed. Sometimes a bit of straight talk is necessary, but it needs to be delivered in the beauty of tact and love. Thank you, Jody, for this delightful imagery. I'll be looking at bridges differently from now on!

  3. What beautiful pictures Jody, and I love the verses that tie into how friendship is the bridge that binds us together in love and harmony. The ties of friendship are strengthened by both adversity and joy, and we must nurture, enjoy, and protect them at all times! Thanks you for this lovely post! 🙂

    Blessings and hugs,
    Denise

  4. Nancy, these bridges are beautiful and they tell the story you speak well. Isn't this how the hard things are done? One careful plank at a time? And the canyons we can cross this way…beautiful.

  5. Thank you, Nancy. God put this word on my heart last year and I've been 'taking notes' for a while now. I didn't realize what an impact it had until I went back and looked at all my photos of bridges. Funny how we gravitate to those images that overtake our souls.

  6. These are stunning pictures!

As a child I used to have such a fear of bridges, holding my breath and praying the entirety of the time it took my dad to drive across the one on the way to my grandparents' farm each Sunday.

Your words here reflect bridges as things of strength. Good imagery.
