My husband loves to fly kites. We recently spent four days at the Oregon Coast and he was very much looking forward to getting some ‘air time.’
Not much you can do, though, if you have no wind.
So we just waited. And while we waited we sat in our beach chairs and read books.
We threw sand in the air a few times to see which the wind was blowing.
Sand up, sand down. No wind blowing.
No matter, we were at the beach. The sun was shining, people were laughing. The waves were invigorating, calling and diving birds put on a show. There were kids and sandcastles….
There was great joy in just waiting.
I have been reading Andrew Murray’s classic ‘Waiting on God’ since October of 2012. That’s almost two years. The book consists of 31 devotionals on prayer…. Thirty one. So I could have been done in November of 2012. But it’s August 2014….and I’m still reading.
Each and every selection is deep and rich and full and takes me a week or two to digest. I camp in each one for awhile, meditating on the words before I continue.
I thought when I began this book I was waiting for something.
Something to happen, something to come together, something big, maybe?
I found out I’m actually waiting for Someone.

Andrew Murray's words are one of my favorite places to camp next to the Word of God. So glad to find a kindred spirit. There is great joy as we wait on Him, because our expectations are exceeded beyond all we can imagine.
This is awesome. My favorite post you have ever written. I seriously love it and what hits my heart the most? This quote: “Do believe that in waiting on God, His greatness and your littleness suit and meet each other most wonderfully.” AMEN!

Such a heart-touching post, Jody. I love the example of you and your husband enjoying the blessings surrounding you as you waited for wind to fly Bill's kite. And those Andrew Murray quotes? WOW! That last one is incredibly profound: “Bow in emptiness and poverty and utter weakness, in humility and meekness, and surrender to His will before His great glory, and be still.
As you wait on Him, God draws near.” No wonder you feel compelled to camp out for awhile in each devotional. Those two sentences alone warrant meditation. Thank you, Jody!

Yes! I love this, Jody. I too often think I'm waiting for someTHING or person to change or move or whatever. But that's an incorrect focus. It's God I'm waiting for. Thanks for sharing your insight.
