Anna Waits-An Advent Poem

Light is coming
she’d heard and read
and widowed, she had
nothing calling her name
but His
across the years
like an echo from
The Garden
so long ago.
She’d been seeking
(was He hiding?),
determined she was–
for what else was her life
but this–
an always looking
in the temple courts
trusting the doorway would
be darkened some day
when Light came into the room.

  1. Thank you for the inspiration of this poem, Jody, for acquainting us more intimately with Anna. Surely she WAS a seeking, determined, trusting woman to spend all her time at the temple, waiting for the Messiah to come. What must that first moment have been like, when she recognized the Light darkening the doorway?

    Beautiful and thought-provoking, Jody!

  2. I am so grateful to have found this poem. I am leading a study on Women in the Bible and this week's study is on Anna. I didn't realize when I planned it, how perfect her story was for Advent. What a wonderful discussion this will be to the conversation.
