WELCOME

I’m Jody. It’s nice to meet you.

I’m the author of three books, a recent poet and past freelance editor. My writing first appeared back when Smith Corona typewriters were a thing and now I’m grateful to be sharing online from my dining table here in Seattle.

My husband and I are So Cal transplants to the PNW where we enjoy visiting grandkids, watching birds from our deck and messing about in the garden. I’m enraptured by flowers & the trees in our greenbelt and take waaaayy too many photos of their glory, some of which you can see here.

We’ve traded gridlock for green and love it. Except I do kinda miss the beach.

Welcome! I’m Jody.

It’s nice to meet you.

I’m an author, poet, retired elementary teacher and Nana. I began writing in Eighth Grade Typing class and words have been my currency ever since. My work has been in print in actual newspapers back in the day but now I’m grateful to be sharing online since 2012.

It’s Here!

Mining the Bright Birds: Poems of Longing for Home is officially out in the world!

The invitation to discover our deepest longings is often a call to lean into the many ways we express ourselves—as poet or painter or simply a person whose hand holds onto our Creator’s on the pathway home.

Mining the Bright Birds offers a glimmer of light to shine the way.

Why “Poetry & Made Things”?

The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians we are God’s poiema, Greek for “a made thing.” Our lives are literally God’s poem – He writes our stories through our daily living, breathing & walking around. But how can we get the poetry of our lives on the page to express our own “made things?”

Whether you are new to the practice of writing or have been journaling or blogging for awhile and want to discover a deeper connection with God through poetry, you have come to the right place!

Follow me here and along the way you’ll uncover God’s heart for you–His poiema. It is my joy to help you make friends with poetry!
