Just Because #24

Part of a sporadic, usually-on-Thursdays series of just God’s Word and pictures, passages I’ve been soaking in.just because. You can see the other posts here.

This is a variation on a theme God continues to spiral into my spirit, driving down into my soul. The last installment of “Just Because” was ‘Abide’, this one is ‘Presence’….combined with rest, two themes the Holy Spirit has been echoing over and over again in my heart. God is with us even in (especially in) our distress.

Isaiah 63:7-9
I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which hs is to be praised,
according to all the LORD has done for us–
yes, the many good things he has done for the house of Israel,
according to his compassion and many kindnesses.

He said, “Surely they are my people,
sons who will not be false to me”;
and so he became their Saviour.

In all their distress he too was distressed,
and the angel of his presence saved them.
In his love and mercy he redeemed them;
he lifted them up and carried them
all the days of old.”

“As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you
and you do not need anyone to teach you.
BUT as his anointing teaches you about all things AND
as the anointing is real, not counterfeit–
just as it has taught you, remain in Him.”**   I John 2:27
**so you must abide–live, never to depart,
rooted in Him, knit to Him. (Amplified)

“The teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit (what is commonly called illumination
does not involve revelation of new truth or the explanation of
difficult passages of Scripture to our satisfaction.
Rather, it is the development of the capacity to appreciate and appropriate God’s truth already revealed–making the Bible meaningful in thought and daily living.
‘all things’–All things necessary to know for salvation and Christian living.”

Just Because #22

Part of a sporadic, only-on-Thursdays series of just The Word and pictures.
What God’s been speaking to me this week….just because. You can see the other posts here.
Jesus said,
“For a brief time still, the light is among you.
Walk by the light you have
so darkness doesn’t destroy you.
If you walk in darkness, you don’t know where you’re going.
As you have the light, believe in the light.
Then the light will be within you,
and shining through your lives.
You’ll be children of light.
John 12:35,36 The Message Bible

echoing, still, that this blog, my words, our lives
would shine, reveal and bring glory
because of the Light of Jesus.

Just Because #21

“May God Himself, the God of peace
sanctify you (make you holy)
completely (through and through.)
May your whole spirit, soul
and body
be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful and
he will do it.”
I Thessalonians 5:23,24

I spent my birthday day by myself at a little beach north of Seattle,
collecting rocks and shells, as I love to do.
I have a lot of rocks- A LOT.
I am drawn to the smooth, rounded ones of all sizes and colors and
wondered why that was so.
I asked Jesus about it; the thought came to me that
they remind me of HIS work to ‘smooth me out’ and make me holy….
which usually takes a lifetime.

how about you? what do you collect?
why?

 “What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light;

and what you hear whispered in the ear,

proclaim from the housetops.”

Matthew 10:27

Just Because #19

This is part of a (very)sporadic series of Scripture pairings with pictures. (You can see the others here. ) These verses spoke loudly to me as I am slowly meditating on Andrew Murray’s ‘Abiding in Christ’, and thinking about the recent terrible floods in Texas, where family, who are safe (thank God) have seen their world around them uprooted in very real ways…

“As you have therefore received the Christ, Jesus the Lord,
(so) walk -regulate your lives and conduct yourselves-
in union and conformity to Him.
Have the roots (of your being) firmly and deeply planted (in Him)-
fixed and founded on Him-being continually built up in Him,
becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith,
just as you were taught,
and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.”   Col. 2:6,7 Ampl.
