April 15th (Just for Fun)

Vashon Hardware, Vashon Island, WA
Rudyard Kipling
begins his classic
“If” poem, urging
me to keep my head
when all about me
are losing theirs,
and I’m certain
my head–and its grey
matter contents–
will soon explode for the
sums and ciphers
impinging on the brain space
I. do. not. have.
This is a necessary evil
(may I speak thus of
the eye are es?)
and I’m grateful to have
income that must be duly reported,
but I have to say
of the two
Very Sure Things in life–
death and taxes–
I much prefer death,
bring me closer to my Creator
than these infernal
forms which are
oh
so
very
taxing.**
**silver lining–things did end in our favor 🙂

My cough appears each hour with the annoying regularity  of a political ad. Its persistence is wearing me down. The election is over,  the advertisements are gone. No more enduring the monotony of a grating sound I do not want to hear. (did I tell you I have a cough?) I did my part–voted the…

  • Dew Change

The thermometer affirms our arrival at Autumn, the droplets on the deck declare in dew that the air is too cold for the water, changing it to liquid on the glassy,  warm surface. I wonder, does the Living Water perform the same miracle when it touches my heart? do change….

  • The Path {a #poem}

“I don’t know what to do, Lord.” Me–buried, brain full of tasks and to do’s, worried there’s a Right Way to Go. I SO don’t want to miss it. As if. As if God had an opinion on closet cleaning versus photo organizing versus gardening or muffin making or Bible reading. As soon as the…
