You’ve heard of the movie “The Incredibles”, right? The 2004 Disney animated film about an unlikely undercover family who thwart evil and save the world by doing the impossible? (I mean seriously, those uber-stretchy arms the Mom has? Now THAT’S impossible.)
We were in the middle of worship recently, hands raised, singing these lines,
and I thought about The Incredibles.
Then I thought about my old blue recipe box in the kitchen cupboard, with a divider that says, “Impossibles” on the tab. This one:
“Impossible” recipes are those all-in-one wonders. Everything goes in a bowl, starting with the trademarked cup of Bisquick. Carefully mix it all together, pour into a prepared pan, bake as directed in the oven and Voila! Like magic, there is a crust on the bottom and your delicious creation on top. The Bisquick does the impossible.
Kind of like the name of Jesus….
Only the name of Jesus can bring healing and forgiveness.
Only the power of Jesus can do the impossible–change our hearts.
Only the power of Jesus can raise our dreams from the dead by mixing in His power.
Only He can revive our broken hearts by stirring us up.
And only Jesus can bring gifts to the surface by turning up the heat.
Are you ready for The Impossibles??
and Jen for the Soli Deo Gloria Party.

Jody, your grace-filled words of hope were undoubtedly inspired by the Holy Spirit: Jesus revives us by stirring us up, and he brings gifts to the surface by turning up the heat. Amen, Sister! 'Love that familiar verse, too, rejuvenated by the genius of Eugene Peterson. Thank you, Jody, for serving up such a delightful, soul-nourishing post-dish today!
…What Glenda said!
Oh, Dionne,He hears the cry of our heart….and sometimes it takes much longer than we like for the answers. You are a blessing tome.
I long to see Him work the impossibles so much in my life…like the magic of Bisquick…working to change my earthly father, bringing my brother to full obedience in Christ, to see my sister this June because money is an issue for us both in that regard, for me to find a friend that I click with (I have women I call friends, but I just don't have that easy-to-be-friends-with kinda gal). Thank you for reminding me Jody of who is in charge of all that…who does the impossible. Let us never give up hope in seeing those impossibles happen in our lives while here on earth.
That recipie box is spilling over with lessons, yes?
Oh, thanks. Yep, Jesus and Bisquick. Totally.
Oh man! Sometimes I'd like to just sit back in the back of the cupboard like one of those items that rarely gets touched because so many times it hurts before it feels better when He is doin' the stirin' up. But it is always worth it in the end!
Jesus and Bisquick … you rock, Jody.
This is a delightful way to share God's Truth with the realities of our kitchens. Rings the bell! And I am so grateful that Jesus is the Only One Who can….do those impossibles. Glad I came by from SDG.
Caring through Christ, ~ linda
Sharita, thanks for your kind words. His name is wonderful, yes.
Love your fun analogies, Jody. And yes, Jesus can (and does!) do the impossible. So encouraging.
I'm your neighbor over at #HearItUseIt and so very glad I stopped by!
PS: I would LOVE to have those stretchy mom arms from the movie. 😉
