Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:
also he hath set the world** in their heart,
so that no man can find out the work
that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
**from the Hebrew, ‘olam’–“concealed, i.e. the vanishing point,
(generally) time out of mind,
(practically) eternity
continuance, eternal, everlasting,
perpetual, at any time (beginning of the)
world without end….”
How big is that??
This has always been one of my favorite verses because I felt it spoke to the fact that all people everywhere had a God- sized space in their hearts, especially those who hadn’t decided to be born again yet–so there is a yearning for God in everyone’s heart
(sometimes they just don’t know it yet).
“He has set eternity in their hearts”
is the way I’d always heard it.
But in the original (or closest to it?)
when the word is rendered, “world”–
why it takes on an entirely new meaning.
For me right now
it seems to say there are secrets to be uncovered,
mysteries to be revealed…
Why, who knows what this New Year will bring?
